Update time! Spent a few lunch times and evenings tidying my new second hand callipers and pas pump. I aquired a full 16v front brake setup from a Birvis donar car, although not the biggist brake setup in the world if there man enough to stop a 16v then they will do the job of stopping a 2l 8v with a cam and p&p head! Scrubbed them down with brake cleaner and a wire brush and then painted them up with enamel paint, pretty happy with the finish, not like there going to seen that much but just wanted them to be tidy.
![]() Today started in Coventry and pulled a few bit from another Birvis donar then came back to Banbury to play! Fitted oil filter housing, clutch, hotgolf flywheel and then got the box back on. Replaced the seal on the gearbox shaft as that was weaping a little bit. Pic of hotgolf flywheel. ![]() Tomorrow hope to get all the pas setup finshed and all belts on.

Engine is about finished today, couple of little touches to go but all ready to go back in, yet to put the manifolds on becuase I think it may be a bit easyer to line the 4 branch manifold up as the engines going in.
Belts all done: ![]() Finished article (for now )![]() Also popped to the scarpyard today for some odds and sods, a couple of rare sights up there, a mk2 with full blue interior, seats, dash the lot! Also a B reg mk2 gti with aircon!! Complete car just sat there begging for me!

I've done some fiddling today to get things right. I fitted pb water hoses towards the end of last week but straight away I wasn't happy with the fit of the hose from the top of the waterpump to the side of the coolant flange on the front of the head. It seemed to be under tension up against the plastic breather flange on the front of the block, when I took it off and compared it with the old 2e hose its clearly different as the 2e hose comes away from the block to allow room. Also the 2e hose t's off into the oil cooler doing away with the hose that runs from the bottom of the coolant flange on the head down to the cooler. So I ordered both the 2e hose and coolant flange and fitted them today, its a million times a better fit. The 2e flange has the overflow for the header tank on it so I'll plumb the header tank into it and block the overflow on the rad up. Maybe I'm being a bit fussy but I like things to be correct and it would be such a waste of cleaning everything and making it look nice only for a hose to split a few miles down the road and cover everything with coolant.
Ill fitting pb hose ![]() 2E hose setup

Very frustating but not much progress to report, the engine going back in has been put back as the bay still isn't ready. Went to do a few things to the car although with out much success! Put a few bolts in the subframe and removed the brake servo. Went to fit the 16v brake setup but got some wires crossed somewhere in my research and it seems I need the 16v hubs to get them fitted. So I'm doing some searching now! Chances are the engine will go back in, bigger master cylinder will be fitted and the 8v brakes will be left for the time being due to cashflow, just have to see what happens.
Think I'm in a bit of a mid project depression, its all getting a bit annoying at the mo. Need a nice shiny engine bay asap to lift the spirts and create some motavation.

you'll get there in the end mate.
the hose you had to modify is very bent on my car, vince @ stealth told me it would expand when hot and that i should leave it! ideally i would like it not to be bent right up, but that seems like quite an expensive fix? how much was the flange and pipe if you dont mind me asking and did you need to buy the t piece?

The t piece is all part of the hose, from memory the hose is about £32 and the flange about £6. I'll get them at cost when I get round to paying for them though!
Its worth the cash imo its so much better. Can always sort my regulars some discount as you know.

is the bay being resprayed at the mo? if thats all thats holding you up it'll be done in no time!!
found a pic of the 2e engine when i got it ... its got the hose on!, it appears to be a rubber t piece! flange looks like the overflow may have snapped off though? would save the main cost of sorting the problem if i can find where i put it!

Yep thats the hose mate. Looks like you will need the flange or if you have that one you could try and block off whats left of the overflow. If you want to try it I have my old hose from my 2e engine you can have but I didn't use it, rather not use second hand hoses, fussy like that.
The bays waiting to have the battery tray welded in and then sprayed then its all go. Just hate waiting! The need for 16v hubs has p'd me off though!

No real progress to report but aquired my 16v hubs by means that are best not mentioned on here!
Nothing to dodgy! Anyways treated them to new wheel bearing which "Tom The destroyer" at work pressed for me. For the small cost to me decided I may aswell replace the wishbones while everythings in pieces. Not bolt is staying unturned at the moment. ![]() Also passing the time waiting for the car to be ready by playing with a 2e cam cover, will fit it one day when the engines in and running. For now I've just started by cleaning it up. Got all the baked on oil off with oven cleaner and then rubbed it down. Thinking of painting it matt black. ![]() More waiting....

Looking good so far, would be an ideal opportunity to fit poly bushes in the wishbones with them off the car, makes a big difference to the handling.

The wishbones that are coming off are polybushed, going to clean them up and sell them on. Ballache to fit and to be fair I do so few miles the genuine ones are fine.

Im going to give ians lastest update for him
Car is still waiting at bodyshop to have the battery tray fitted and the bay resprayed, constant pestering hasnt had much effect and the engine is all ready to go in, me and ian are standing by waiting for the call so we can get down there and get it running again, then all we have to do is fit the new doors, electric windows, bootlid, vdo gauges and it should be about finished

A long time coming but a small update. I've plumbed in the 2e breather using a 2e ufo and a couple of cut and shut 2e breathers with a small length of hose inbetween. Really pleased with the result as it has a real oem look to it.
![]() Also had a trial fit of the inlet manifold, just as a reminder more than anything! ![]() ![]() Rumor has it the car may be ready for the new engine next weekend but I'm not going to hold my breath!
