Need some advice for a friend who is thinking of buying a knackard audi a3 of his friend!!!
But the engine is dead due to oil pump giving up!!! his friend isnt sure he wants to spend the money putting a new engine in!!! So my friend is thinking of buying it for about £800 and breaking it for parts and selling them! is it worth it or would he be wasting his time?? The shell and the interior is in prestine condition including the full leather interior and its completly standard!!! Thanks |

What year and model of A3 is it?
£800 sounds like a lot for a non-runner, and if the engine has failed, there are probably other parts of the car that were poorly maintained.

£800 is a fair amount, esp with work cut out to cover that back breaking it apart.
I recently wrote my MK4 off, didn't even think of buying it back due to hassle, I removed some valuable bits and let them take it away. I was cheeky enough to remove interior, told the guy water damage mate they were rotten

unless it's a reasonable late model with a decent interior, nice alloys and tidy on the outside then £800 is a bit steep

its a 2000 xreg with one peice headlights so the mk2 a3!! the wheels are standard audi ones and the ugly ones at that!!!
But yea 800 is a bit much!!! What would be a good price to try and buy it for and break it?? tis a shame cause the body work compared to mine is in really good nick!! Any idea how much the leather interior including door cards would go for out of an a3?? Thanks |

Ah, if it's got leather then that's a huge bonus, i'd imagine you could get £400 just for the interior complete

is the oil pump gone though or is it just rattling on the top end? Reason I ask is these are renowned for the oil pickups getting blocked thus starving top end of oil, i know cos I bought one for pennies due it having a 'knackered engine', new oil pump, new pickup, oil and filter change - good as new!
